It was ordered to construct by Mr. Jose Cristiano in 1936. Manuel Jose da Silveira was the naval constructor that build it, more known for Mestre Janeiro, in S. Roque do Pico, Furna.
It measures 12 meters of size, mouth 2.60 meters and pontal 1.27 meters. The tonnage of raw arching is of 6,7723 TM, its first engine was a Gray of 160 H.P. that approximately reached the speed of 14 knots and its last engine was a GM Diesel of 205 H.P.
How much to the name, Mr. Jose Cristiano, used the name of its first daughter, being thus the motor boat to call itself: " Maria Manuela ".
After its construction it was registered the Captainship of Horta, with registration H-1-B (first motor boat to be registered in this port).
In 1950 she was registered in the Porto das Velas, with registers VE-78-B, where it exerted its activity during many years.
E finally had its school registration in the Maritime Delegation of the Lajes do Pico: LP-75-B.
For beyond the Porto das Velas, it gave support to the whaler boats in Porto do Comprido, Calheta de Nesquim and finally in Porto Pim, where Mestre António Jose “Faidoca” finishes his activity.

In the decade of 80 the whalehunt come to it end. Because of International agreements that Portugal added on and because of the lack of markets to commercialize whale oils.
That way the industrials that were exploring this activity had stopped investing in new equipments. The industries degradation started because there wasn’t no raw material to work for and the motor and whaler botas stopped going to sea.
Those facts, the age, and the non conservation took those investments to degradation as we can see in the next pictures.

In order to accomplish the objectives of the project: “Path Of The Whalers” we started restoring the motorboat: “Maria Manuela”, in July of 2001.
The restoration takes place in the naval industries, in Santo Amaro do Pico, by the orientation of the naval constructor: Norberto Silva Melo.
The geometric plan that was the base of restore came from remainders of the motorboat: “Maria Manuela” and based on old pictures.
